"In a fire every second counts so if we have to dig out that hydrant that is time wasted..."
After last night's snowfall, the Woodstock Fire Department is asking for a favour from homeowners.
If you have a fire hydrant on or near your property, they ask you to keep an eye on it, and dig it out if need be.
Public Information Coordinator Lisa Woods tells Heart FM clearing a fire hydrant can be very time consuming in an emergency situation.
"In a fire every second counts so if we have to dig out that hydrant that is time wasted that we could be putting water on the fire and putting the fire out."
It advised that you keep up to 3 metres around the fire hydrant cleared of snow.
This is by no means obligatory but a few moments of your time could save someone's life in an emergency.
