Kate Leatherbarrow is seeking a second term on Woodstock City Council.

WOODSTOCK - She's finishing her first term as a Woodstock City Councillor and she wants to give it another go.

Kate Leatherbarrow is running for re-election this fall. She has learned a lot over the past four years and says the introduction of the new child care policy was a big highlight for her.

"Implementing that child care policy, whether it be for future partnerships or future spaces within municipal buildings, I was really happy to get that support to see that come to life so it can be considered as we navigate our growing community."

If she's re-elected, she's looking forward to discussing the new multi-use rec facility in the north end of the city, adding the groundwork has already been laid for the project.

"Throughout this term I have heard families, caregivers, and athletes all wanting whether it be more water for a pool, more ice, or child care spaces to be considered inside of that multi-rec facility. I think we have waited long enough for a new facility that would attract outside athletes and outside events to come in and invest in our city. I would really like to be part of that to see it come to life."

Leatherbarrow has also been very active on social media throughout her first term, often posting agendas and recap videos from each council meetings. She also uses her online platform to engage with her constituents and receive feedback. Leatherbarrow says this is part of her foundation, so she will continue to be active online if she's re-elected.

Outside of council chambers, Leatherbarrow is a mother of four children with her oldest getting ready to start high school in September. She's also involved in six committees, the municipal campaign school of Oxford County, and her family started a well known local business; Early Bird Coffee.

The municipal election is scheduled for October 26th.
