He spent most of his career in IT and business, and now he wants to become the next Mayor of Woodstock.

WOODSTOCK - A third contender has but their name forward in the mayoral race in Woodstock.

Aaron Gorlick grew up in Toronto and decided to move to the Friendly City about nine years ago. He wanted his kids to grow up in a community where they could interact, grow and be social. His family is also very artistic, so Woodstock's art scene was also a selling point for him.

Gorlick has spent most of his professional career in the IT and business world, helping billion dollar companies find ways to streamline their processes to become more sustainable in the future.

He if becomes the next Mayor of Woodstock, Gorlick would like to use his software development skills to create an accessible app where citizens can vote on local issues and have their voices heard.

"It empowers people to talk directly to city hall and directly to city council. We can use software to take these ideas and distill them into the top three each week and make sure that it's part of the discussion. That way we're not guessing what people want, we know exactly what they want."

He believes his knowledge of technology and where it's heading, sets him apart from the other candidates vying for the job.

"I've watched AI grow from the very beginning when it first started and I'm telling you this is something that needs to be considered. It needs to be considered in city hall and part of our everyday lives. As we grow and expand, we need to be aware and wary of what those things mean for our future."

Gorlick says his great-grandfather used to tell him that you can't create paradise on earth, but you can create paradise one acre at a time through community and building relationships.

When asked about the topics he'd like to address, he noted the mental health and addictions crisis, the cost of living, the lack of event spaces in Woodstock, the need for another pool, and more.

The municipal election is scheduled for October 26th.
