If you can't make it out to a polling station on October 19th, you can go to the advance polls or request a mail in ballot
Not everyone will be able to make it out to the polling stations on October 19th, but there are other options available.
Media Relations Advisor for Elections Canada David Rutherford says you can verify that you are registered to vote in a couple of ways. "Call 1 800 - 463 - 6868 and speak to an Elections Canada representative. If you want to go online, visit the Elections Canada site at ElectionsCanada.ca, go to the voter's link and go through the steps. Then you can verify online whether you are registered or not."
If you've recently moved it's also important to check that you are registered in the correct riding. "It's always good to check because you would have been registered in a different riding - a different electoral district," Rutherford says. "So it would be good to go online and that will tell you whether you're registered and where your polling district is."
But if the October 19th date does not work for you, there are other options to vote ahead of time. "Well actually you can vote at any time. You can go to an Elections Canada office now and vote," according to Rutherford. "Or you can go online or to an Elections Canada office and request a mail in ballot. Otherwise you can go to the Advance Polling days, and they are happening betwen the 9th and 12th of October across the Thanksgiving weekend."
