It is a message that gets repeated over and over again by the Oxford OPP. They need drivers to slow down and move over.
OXFORD COUNTY - It may sound like a broken record, but it is a very important message.
The Oxford OPP are sending out another reminder about motorists needing to slow down and move over when they see lights on the side of the road. Community Engagement Officer, Constable Randi Crawford, says one officer had multiple encounters with this issue.
"Look, Constable Crawford, I just got three people yesterday just on my own, and they were all not moving over, not slowing down, blowing by him when he was pulling over another vehicle."
Crawford adds that it is very simple and common sense to make sure first responders can do their jobs in a safe and efficient manner. She also made this comment while talking with Heart FM.
"And if you are paying enough attention and watching the road ahead, you should always have enough time to slow down. If you can't move over, you at least have to slow down."
Crawford said the penalty for the first offence is $490 plus 3 demerit points, and the penalty gets higher for repeat offenders.
