It was the final week of the PJHL regular season, and here is how the Oxford County teams fared.
PJHL - With the playoffs right around the corner, the Oxford County teams were looking to lock in their spot in the standings.
The Woodstock Navy Vets secured the number one spot in the Doherty Division with three wins in the final week of the season. First, on Tuesday, the Vets skated to a 5-1 victory over the Shamrocks in Hespeler, then completed the home-and-home against the Shamrocks on Friday in Woodstock with a 4-0 win. The regular season finished yesterday with the Vets beating Paris 5-3 at Southwood Arena.
It was a busy final week of the regular season for the Norwich Merchants, who had four games over that time. It began on Wednesday when the Merchants were in Wellesley, and they left there with a 3-2 loss. The Merchants were in Tavistock on Friday and were defeated by the Braves by the score of 5-3. The lone bright spot for the Merchants came on Sunday when they were able to beat Paris 7-5, but the win was short-lived as the Merchants finished the regular season with a 3-2 loss to Hespeler.
As for the aforementioned Tavistock Braves, they began the final week with a 5-3 win over Norwich on Friday, as previously mentioned, and continued their winning ways on Sunday as they doubled up Hespeler 4-2. However, the Braves could not finish the season with a win, as they were beaten by New Hamburg yesterday, 7-6 in overtime.
Lastly, in the Yeck Division, the Thamesford Trojans finished the season with two wins. First, on Thursday, they went to Petrolia and beat the Flyers 6-3, and the next night (Friday), they treated the hometown fans to a 4-0 victory over Port Stanley.
Each team will now gear up for the postseason and a run to the Schmalz Cup.
