Pins are still available to show your support for those suffering with breast cancer.
OXFORD COUNTY - Pins are still available to show your support for those suffering with breast cancer.
As Breast Cancer Awareness Month winds down multiple activities have been taking place. Community Fundraising Specialist Liz Wismer-Van Meer breaks down how the month went.
"It has been really great we've had a couple of new fundraiser's that have picked up for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Woodstock Navy Vets did their Breast Cancer Awareness Game at the beginning of the month in support of those that are fighting breast cancer, and those that are surviving and to also honour those who are no longer with us."
A Pink in the Rink event will be happening at Ingersoll arena at the end of next week as that will be one of the final events to cap off a successful Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Hockey games to bake sales have been held around the county, and Wismer-Van Meer explains how long the pink ribbon pins will still be available.
''We typically try to get them picked up the last week of October so next week we will be getting those picked up, we have maybe a few more days for people to get those pink ribbons. We do know that statistics show that 1 in 9 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, it's definitely one of those diseases that affects a lot of women and men are also encouraged check themselves."
Wismer-Van Meer knows why it is important to support the cause, "So many people have been touched by breast cancer if it is not yourself maybe it is a neighbour, a loved one, a family member, or a co-worker. It is just unfortunately one of those diseases that seems to touch a lot of people and the age unfortunately we see younger women developing that as well. Breast cancer is a disease that so many people have been affected by that they just want to help out any way they can."
As October winds down Wismer-Van Meer knows wants to spread the word that there is still time available to donate for those who haven't yet.
