A Presentation by Canada Post wasn't enough to ease concerns from Woodstock City Council
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock City Council is yet another municipality opposing Canada's Posts unpopular decision to end home door delivery. A presentation from Canada Post was not enough to ease concerns from Woodstock City Council. The Woodstock Accessibility Advisory Committee requested council support their decision to oppose the end of home door delivery over concerns regarding seniors and mobility. Scott MacDonald from the Accessibility Advisory Committee said there are many issues that could arise as a result of ending home door delivery, especially for those with disabilities.
Canada Post Manager of Municipal Engagement Andy Paterson said there were opportunities for residents with disabilities to be accommodated. However these required filling out a questionnaire and potentially providing medical documentation.
MacDonald said there are concerns on how the consideration process of those seeking medical accommodation would be conducted.
"Anytime you look into someone's private life where you are accessing information in regards to their disability you are making a judgement call on whether you consider their disability well enough to be accommodated or not and that is discriminatory to the individual and not a fair assessment of what their needs are."
