A homeowner in Woodstock had to pay a fine, among other costs, after pleading guilty to charges.
WOODSTOCK - Charges have been laid after a fire investigation in Woodstock.
The Fire Department responded to a residence at 91 Tennyson Street on September 22nd... and a smoke alarm on the upper level alerted the residents, who then warned the people on the lower level. A post fire insepction found multiple Ontario Fire Code infractions, which led to charges to the homeowner. The charges that were laid included an unapproved additional residential dwelling unit in a single-family house, failure to replace a smoke alarm as per the manufacturer’s instructions, failure to maintain the smoke alarm in operating condition, failure to test smoke alarms annually and after every change in tenancy, failure to install a carbon monoxide alarm adjacent to each sleeping area, and failure to test carbon monoxide alarms annually and after every change in tenancy.
Yesterday, the homeowner pleaded guilty to the violations and now has to pay a fine of $10,000 along with a victim surcharge and court costs.
