Charges against 20 year old Nathaniel Veltman have been upgraded to include terrorism, following last weeks targeted killing of a Muslim family in London.
The man accused of intentionally targeting a Muslim family in London has had his charges upgraded.
The Crown has added terrorism charges to 20 year old Nathaniel Veltman. They reasoned that four counts of first degree murder and a charge of attempted murder, warranted the terrorism charge. Prosecutors also upgraded the one count of attempted murder he is facing to reflect the recent terrorism charges.
Veltman is accused of running down three generations of a Muslim family last week in London in his pickup truck. The family was out for an evening stroll.
46 year old Salman Afzaal, his wife 44 year old Madiha Salman, and their 15 year old daughter Yumna Afzaal, along with Mr. Afzaal's 74 year old mother were killed in the attack on June 6. The only survivor was their 8 year old son, who remains in the hospital with serious injuries.
The tragic act has rocked the Country and prompted several vigils, including one last week that was attended by the Prime Minister and the Premier of Ontario.
