City hoping to plant 900 trees May 3 and are looking for volunteers
Woodstock's Lion's Trail is about to get a facelift during the annual Community Tree Planting Day.
Nearly 900 trees of various varieties will be planted this year to help replenish those lost to the Emerald Ash Borer.
City Parks Supervisor Chris Kern says $10,000 worth of trees were purchased from Earthgen who supplied them at a discounted rate.
"We have a variety of trees that we will be planting at this site. Cherry birch, yellow birch, paper birch, bur oak, silver maple, some butternut, red oak and white pine."
"They are trees in pots so there is less shock to trees if it's already in a pot, it doesn't know it's being put in the ground. Whereas if it's been put in with a bare root, it takes time for it to get sturdy in the ground to grow."
The event was originally slated for April 26 but moved to May 3 at 9am.
Anyone wishing to help out either monetarily or through labour are asked to contact Glynis Hill 519-539-2382 ext 4101.
