Fred Freeman served on Ingersoll Town Council for 19 years and he's looking to add four more as a councillor.
INGERSOLL - A familiar face is planning a return to Ingersoll Town Council.
Fred Freeman was on council for 19 years; serving three years as a councillor and 16 years as the Deputy Mayor leading up to the 2022 municipal election.
He had a lot of accomplishments during that time. He played a big role in the creation of the Fusion Youth Centre and the fight against the landfill.
"We fought Walker Environmental for 8.5 years to stop that landfill and we succeeded. In the meantime, we were able to get legislation changed so now any municipality has the right to say yes or no to a landfill."
Freeman is now looking to become a town councillor and he believes his past experience could be a huge asset.
If he's elected, he would like to oversee the construction of the new Multi-Use Rec Centre, public school, long term care home, and subdivision in the south end of town. He also has another big project in his sights.
"We have about 640 acres on the south side of Highway 401 that needs to be serviced. So we will be servicing that land and it's going to take a lot of money to do that, so I want to be able to help create that initiative."
In his personal life, Freeman is a local realtor and he has a blended family of five children and eight grandchildren. He has been a Rotary Club member for 36 years now, serving as the President for three times during his tenure. He has also been an in-school mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters for 24 years and he's board member for the Children's Aid Society of Oxford County. He recently received the Jack Ross Memorial Award, recognizing his impact on children and youth in Oxford County.
The municipal election is scheduled for October 26th.
