Over 1,300 local students will be supported by United Way Oxford's Supplies4Students program this year.
OXFORD COUNTY - It was a successful Supplies4Students campaign for United Way.
This year, 1,355 students were supported from 652 families, which spanned across 39 schools. Through the generosity of community donors, companies, churches, labour and employee groups, local students received $50 gift cards for Giant Tiger, Dollarama, or Staples. The gift cards were able to help buy school supplies that will be needed for the upcoming school year.
Executive Director of United Way Oxford, Kelly Gilson, explains why this program is so important every year.
"Oxford’s Supplies4Students program provides more than school supplies; it provides a sense of belonging and the support of a community that cares. Thanks to our generous donors and partners, 1,355 students are starting the school year with the tools they need to succeed."
In addition to the gift cards, donated backpacks and school supplies distributed through local agencies helped support more than 200 additional students across Oxford County.
United Way Oxford and Oxford’s Supplies4Students partners thank the school boards; Thames Valley District School Board, London District Catholic School Board, and Conseil scolaire catholique Providence for helping distribute the gift cards to the students and their families.
United Way Oxford and Oxford’s Supplies4Students partners are also wishing every student and staff have a very successful school year.
