The agreement is under the Court Security and Prisoner Transportation Program, which will see council cover a share of what the province doesn't pay in prisoner transportation and court security costs.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Council has entered into a funding agreement with the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
The agreement is under the Court Security and Prisoner Transportation Program.
Warden for Oxford County, Larry Martin says council will pay a share of the difference of what the province doesn't pay in court security and prisoner transportation costs.
"Originally, it came out at one point in time the province put the host police service responsible for police security and prisoner transportation within the County. And at one point in time, the province fully funded it but they've been cutting back, cutting back and they say they're uploading and it's going to eventually evolve into a full upload, but that hasn't happened yet. Well, County Council just didn't figure it was right that Woodstock would pick up the bill for all of the court security and police transport of the prisoners, so we just pay a share of the difference of what the province doesn't pay."
Warden Martin adds the agreement is included in the 2019 budget. He says it won't have any additional financial impact on the budget.
"That was factored into the budget when we were doing the budget deliberations earlier on in the year, and it's a carry over from the year before as well. So it's already factored in, so the end result after last night's meeting should have no impacts on the budget."
Council will be pay $10,850 in transfer costs.
