He's used to prosecuting cases, but Oxford County's Crown Attorney Brian Crockett is about to find out what it's like being a defendant. Crockett faces impaired driving charges after a weekend incident in north Woodstock. The 64-year-old was allegedly driving a pick-up truck that got stuck in a ditch while reversing out of a walking trail entrance, on the north side of Oxford Road 17, east of Lakeview Drive. This happened Saturday afternoon, at around 3:20. Police say Crockett was revving the truck to get out of the ditch, and that started a grass fire beneath the vehicle (in bottom photo). Police and fire responded. Crockett was not injured, but police believe he was impaired. The Crown Attorney is facing charges of Impaired Driving, having Care and Control, and Failing to Provide a Breath Sample. Crockett has not returned phone calls, and refused comment in person. Police are also not commenting on the case. Crockett is a highly regarded lawyer and was one of the prosecutors that oversaw the recent conviction of Michael Rafferty in the kidnapping, sexual assault and murder of 8-year-old Tori Stafford. Crockett is also the Chair of the Woodstock Library Board.
