Eastdale Public School show their support for the Canadian Cancer Society
You're A Good Man Cameron Cherry.
The Eastdale Public School grade five student, who is playing the lead role in their upcoming production of "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown" shaved his head in support of the Canadian Cancer Society Wednesday morning.
Cameron challenged his school to raise $500 to shave his head for the role of Charlie Brown but the school surpassed that collecting $1014.85.
His teacher, Melissa Bogaert joined the challenge and cut her hair along with Cameron saying she was happy to support the great cause and his efforts. "Beyond proud of him, I know he was not the most calm this morning, he was definitely nervous about it but beyond proud that he went through with it."
Bogaert says she has cut her hair for cancer a few times now as her family has been affected by the disease a number of times and she wanted to show her support for the cause and the students who helped raise the funds.
The two had their hair cut by Breanne Driedger and Kaitlyn MacNeill from Gardenia Salon & Spa in Woodstock, who offered their services for Wednesday's event.
Another student at the school, Jimmy cut his hair prior to this event in support of Eastdale's fundraiser.
Cameron says "it makes me feel great" supporting the Canadian Cancer Society with the hair cutting fundraiser.
Canadian Cancer Society Oxford Branch Fundraising Coordinator Tracy Bucholtz was on hand for the cheque presentation. "The energy in the room is amazing. Seeing young kids really understand that they're making a difference is unbelievable. And like I said, the energy in a room full of 100 plus kids is amazing."
Eastdale Public School present "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown" April 24th and 25th at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $4 or you can make a donation of non-perishable food items; all proceeds and donations will benefit the Woodstock Salvation Army Food Bank.
