Don McKay will be staying in politics.
EAST ZORRA TAVISTOCK - He made have not become the MPP of Oxford County but he is still staying in politics.
After running as the Liberal Candidate, Don McKay has no regrets and has returned as the Mayor of East Zorra Tavistock. McKay explains how the past week has gone and what he thought of the campaign. "We had a Wednesday night East Zorra Tavistock Council Meeting so it was very engaging and very rewarding. We are very satisfied with the campaign, very humbled to see the amount of support, volunteers, contributors and people are engaged. I'm certainly going to be continuing to offer leadership, it will just be at the local level instead of the federal level."
Don is wasting no time returning to municipal politics and commented on how if the last start to the campaign hurt his chances of turning Oxford County red. "Oxford County is very Conservative, I am thrilled with the gains that we made but I'm not sure that another 2 weeks would have been able make up the difference. This is fundamentally a Conservative community, I'm glad to be part of that even while offering a little leaning to left." He will also resume his role on Oxford County Council and he added that you don't need to be apart a political leader to make an impact in the community.
McKay spoke with Heart FM about something new he learned while on the lengthy campaign trail. "A lot of what we aspire to be able to accomplish can be accomplished with engagement, you don't necessarily need the power of the position, whether it is Mayor, MP, or MPP. It really is about can we get local engagement and then we can see the outcome, that is what people in Oxford County are looking for." Dave MacKenzie and the Conservative Party will continue to be in power within Oxford County over the next 4 years.
