It remains a waiting game for teachers, parents and students in Ontario as the threat of a strike looms over public elementary schools. Teachers will be in a legal strike position on Sunday night and the Elementary Teachers Federation says they are prepared to take action if a deal cannot be reached. Heart FM spoke with the President of the Thames Valley Teachers Local Craig Smith who says two of the biggest stumbling blocks centre in getting a deal done centre around preparation time and class sizes. He adds right now the ETFO is letting school boards know a job action will take place on May 10th if a deal cannot be reached. While most reports suggest it will be a work to rule campaign Smith says we won't know for sure until Friday.
He says the goal is to sit down with the Province and hammer out a deal. As of right now no talks are planned and Smith is hoping that will change in the next couple of days. Heart FM has heard from a few parents who say they have already gotten notices in the mail about class trips being cancelled because of the potential job action.
