Woodstock City Council approved about $29 million worth of projects in the 2026 capital budget.
WOODSTOCK - It was a long process for Woodstock City Council.
At their meeting yesterday, they went over topics that were in the 2026 budget. After many hours, Mayor, Jerry Acchione was able to share this news.
"The 2026, the capital budget has been adopted. We still have the revenue fund budget to do in March, but this is the first step. We just approved about $29 million worth of projects."
Acchione mentions a big item that was discussed was the idea of an outdoor pool. There was a delegation, and a motion passed to put funds towards a potential outdoor pool in 2027. He also stated there is still more work to be done before the residents will know how their taxes are affected.
"We won't know the final numbers until March. This was on par to what we expected. There was no big increases. It was pretty much the way it was presented by city staff at the end of the day."
Acchione mentions besides the budget, Council discussed the changes to the waste collection pick-up, which will be on a six-day cycle and recycling has gone to a third party and will be the same day as garbage and organic waste. He added funds have been approved as the City gets ready to celebrate turning 125-years-old on July 1st, 2026.
