Fire at Nova Steel

Crews responded Wednesday afternoon to a dumpster up in flames.

WOODSTOCK -- Woodstock Fire Department were called to a outdoor fire Wednesday afternoon at Nova Steel.

Four engines arrived at the scene located in the Pattullo Ridge Business Park at 807 Pattullo Drive in Woodstock just before 2:15p.m.

Firefighters arrived on scene to discover a garbage bin used for a roofing job up in flames with heavy smoke.  Public Information Coordinator with Woodstock Fire, Lisa Woods says employees reacted quickly to move the bin away from the building which suffered some damage.

"We pulled up to Nova Steel, and a garbage bin for the roofing materials, they're working on the roof here -- it was fully involved in flames and black smoke.  There was some damage to the exterior of the building as well."

Woods says the scene ended up having a couple of hot spots which crews reacted swiftly to control.

"Initial concern was with both the building and the garbage bin.  Then shortly after that, a garbage bin which had already been placed in a truck started on fire as well.  We were able to dump those contents onto the ground so we could save the truck."

Woods says quick reaction from employees saved the building from further damage.

"That quick action by employees at Nova Steel and the Fire Department actually probably saved the building from having quite a bit of extensive damage to it."

Woods also confirmed to Heart FM that everyone was accounted for and no one was injured as a result.

No damage estimate was provided from crews on scene and no word on an initial cause could be provided.
