Approximately 2,000 people are competing in this year's Woodstock Rotary Music Festival with hopes of moving on to the festival showcase.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Rotary Music Festival is underway in the Friendly City.
The event features a variety of music and musicians, ranging in ages as high as 75 years old.
Past President of the Woodstock Rotary Club, Lisa Wells says it's great to see all of the performers compete.
"It's wonderful to see everybody compete, they're very excited to compete whether they're five or whether they're 75. It's an exciting time for them."
There are approximately 2,000 people in this year's festival, which began at the end of March. The performers are competing in a variety of categories, where the winners move on to the trophy round. The winners from each category will then go on to perform at the showcase Stars of The Festival at the Salvation Army Church on April 17th.
The winners can also move on to the provincial music festival, depending on how well they perform at the showcase.
Wells adds the event has renewed some interest in the last couple of years.
"We've had a renewed interest in the last few years, actually. The enrolment has been growing, so that's exciting. We added in music theatre a couple years ago so it's still popular. Really, it is a competitive music festival so we do see lots of things that are the same, but every year it's different pieces and new participants."
She says audiences can expect a range of music to listen to and performers to watch at this year's festival.
"They can expect a wonderful evening of different types of music from children of all ages, as well as adults with all types of instruments and types of music."
The Woodstock Rotary Music Festival goes until April 11th at the Salvation Army Church.
