The Food Rescue Hub is moving forward after receiving $50,000 from the City to secure a building for its operation.
WOODSTOCK - Exciting news has come for the Food Rescue Hub.
The Hub will be able to take surplus food and give it to organizations that help the people around Oxford County who might go hungry. $50,000 has been given by the City to help the Hub, and Board Member Tim Dukes shares how that money will help.
"The $50,000 is going to be the startup. It's allowed us to actually search for a location and find a location. We're currently signing the lease, looking into moving into the building and getting this open."
Board Member, Chris Cunningham, shares what the Hub will be doing.
"Not only will it help our bottom lines as charities and non-profits; it is the volume of food that's going to come into this community. And where we are not distributing directly to the individuals, we are here to distribute to the service providers."
Cunningham mentions the Hub will also help the grocery stores and local businesses trying to donate food come to one central location. Also, Dukes adds that the Food Rescue Hub will be run on a strict volunteer basis, and asks anyone who might have spare time to think about lending a helping hand.
