Frozen Pipe Blamed for VON Flood

Disintegrated ceiling tiles lay on the ground at flooded VON Oxford's office in Woodstock.

Meals on Wheels and Adult Day programs affected by flooding

They're assessing the damage at the VON of Oxford in Woodstock today.

Like Tillsonburg's Woodingford Lodge, they too, over the weekend had a major flooding issue.

A frozen sewer pipe backed up onto the roof of the building on Ingersoll Ave. and ended up collapsing part of the ceiling.

Luckily, no one was there when it happened.

But Care and Service Manager Robin Kish says damage is extensive.  "It's fairly significant to our office spaces.  The damages happened in the north part of the building.  But luckily, our Meals on Wheels and Adult Day program areas have been affected minimally."

But while they mop up and dry out the building, those Adult Day and Meals on Wheels programs have been cancelled for today and tomorrow.

Kish says the Woodstock Navy Club has offered their kitchen to see the Meals on Wheels program continue later this week, if needed.  "Till we have more information as far as how long we may be displaced for...but certainly the Navy Club and many other community organizations have been very generous at offering assistance to us and we greatly appreciate the support in the community."

The VON's office staff are working out of Sakura House, and all calls are being forwarded to that location, if local residents have any questions about programs.
