Oxford County will be getting a compressed natural gas filling station in 2016, but you could get a preview today.
WOODSTOCK - It's day two of Canada's Outdoor Farm Show and one area to check out when you stop by today is the renewable energy section.
Faromor CNG is at the site talking about their plans to have large tanker trucks and farm equipment run on compressed natural gas and eventually bio methane gas derived from farm waste and agriculture sources. Technical Manager for Faromor CNG Nick Hendry tells Heart FM they have an old milk transport on display at the farm show that is running on a mix of compressed natural gas and diesel.
"Bio methane, which is a waste produce off gassing from manure, natural gas, blend them together, compress it to really high pressures of 3600 PSI and we put them in tanks on the vehicle and in the engine. We mix the compressed natural gas and the diesel together to give you a lower emissions fuel that burns cleaner."
Hendry says they plan on opening up a new fuelling station on Highway 59 at the 401 exit in Norwich Township next Spring.
"We are planning on building a station that is capable of filling 125 to 150 trucks with this compressed natural gas bio methane blended fuel."
He adds they believe this is the way of the future and are excited to get their fuelling station up and running in Oxford.
"The fuel of the future comes from anaerobic digesters, which is gas made from the waste products of farm processing, dairy manure, beef manure and part of the plans for our station is to supply a large portion of the gas with bio methane."
Oxford was chosen because of its location on the 401 and 403 and because of their 2050 initiative to become 100 percent reliant on renewable energy by 2050.
