BLANDFORD-BELNDEIM - Halton Recycling Limited has pleaded guilty in the death of a worker in Oxford County. The company has accepted a 225 thousand dollar fine after an employee was killed while picking up recycling on Blandford-Blenheim Township Road 4 May 1 of 2013.
At the time of the incident the driver was operating the truck from a standing position on the right hand side. The truck went around a curve and lost control, leading to the driver being ejected and striking their head on the pavement. The worker later died of their injuries.
It was noted that at the time of the accident the truck was travelling at 77 kilometers per hour and the occupant safety restraint device was not in use. A door safety restraint was also found to be non-functional as the locking portion was too bent to click in properly.
