Three Ontario Colleges are all revved up over a donation they're getting from HINO Motors. The Woodstock truck manufacturer is donating three of its newest models to Fanshawe, Mohawk and Conestoga Colleges. Mohawk's truck and coach program received theirs today, as students toured the HINO plant. The students will be tearing the vehicle apart and putting it back together as part of its curriculum. Program Coordinator Bob Cook says receiving a new vehicle for the students to work on is unheard of. "This doesn't happen. Most of our equipment we have to purchase through apprenticeship enhancement funds or whatever. We get small donations, but never a donation like this. This is the first truck that's been donated. It just came out of the blue, Greg Stubb from Toronto called and said 'You want a truck?' I said 'How much is it going to cost us?' And he said 'It's free.' I just about fell out of my chair." HINO Canada President Shuichi Kaneko says it's a great opportunity for students. "It is a good opportunity for the students of Mohawk College to learn on state of the art technology." The donated trucks are new HINO COE model, which we'll be hilighting in a future story on Heart FM.
