Canada's largest Dachshund Festival is about to become a two-day event.
WOODSTOCK - The 24th annual Wienerfest Home County Festival is going to be bigger and better than ever.
It's going to be a two-day event at the Woodstock Fairgrounds this year happening on Saturday June 22nd and Sunday June 23rd from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
There will be over 100 vendors to check out, stationed inside and outside. Organizer Linda Sonnenberg says you can also expect all of your favourite events to return this year.
"We've got the wiener races, bobbing for wieners, yogurt licking contest, and the costume contest where everyone dresses up like a hotdog."
Rusty Ru Ru the Canadian Dachshund will be the celebrity guest this year. Food Network Star Tiffany Pratt will be holding a meet and greet with her Dachshund named Poppy on the Saturday as well. Canadian Country artist Shelly Rastin will also hit the stage for a live performance at 4:30 p.m. on the Saturday.
This is Canada's largest Dachshund Festival and Sonnenberg says admission is free by donation.
"I always wanted to have it as a goal for the festival that anyone who wanted to come could afford to come under their economic circumstances. So you can come bring a picnic, a blanket, sit in the shade, and bring chairs and stuff to make a day of it."
You can find more information on their website and Facebook page.
Volunteers are also needed to help make this event possible. Those who are interested can reach out to Sonnenberg by e-mailing info@wienerfest.ca.
Linda Sonnenberg stopped by the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Friday May 10th. You can listen to the full interview below:
