Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Christian Reformed Church are trying to help a refugee family in desperate need
INGERSOLL - A family of Syrian Refugees could be moving into Ingersoll.
Two churches are teaming up to bring the refugees to town, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Christian Reformed Church are hoping to bring the family from Lebanon to Ingersoll. The family of seven has five children and they need to go through rigorous testing and documentation before being allowed into the country. Father Gilbert Simard tells Heart FM Catholics everywhere are being urged to help Syrian Refugees.
"The Pope has also made an appeal to all of the Catholic community to open their doors to refugees who don't have a home at the present time and the Pope has even taken in a family of refugees at the Vatican."
Simard says they are hopeful the family will be able to come to Canada within the next 30 days.
"They are being processed by the Canadian Embassy in Lebanon and the only thing we have been told is they are a high priority from their present situation because there is some danger for the family. We don't know what that is but they are a high priority to get out of Lebanon."
The family could be in Oxford County early next month and the churches are collection donations to help get them settled into Ingersoll.
"We'll need to set up a home for them, I mean they will arrive with literally only the clothes on their backs and whatever they can carry, they will have nothing, so we will need to provide furniture for them and beds and everything that goes into a home in Ontario. We will be making an appeal to the public for donations when the family arrives in Ingersoll."
