A delegation from Ingersoll met with Ministry officials at the ROMA Conference in Toronto.
INGERSOLL/TORONTO - It was a productive Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Conference for Ingersoll officials.
The goal of the week was to discuss the future of the town and gain support for projects. There were three meetings that took place and they included one with the Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, one with the Minister of Sport, and the last meeting was with the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Finance.
During the meeting with the Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, the GM CAMI plant was discussed, along with help building new roads and utilities to support job creation and housing growth, keeping economic stability. Projects like the Multi-Use Recreation Centre, and that area being built up with homes, a school, and a long-term care home was brought up when they met with the Minister of Sport. Lastly, during the meeting with the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Finance, the topics covered were local tax challenges, an update how auto plants are valued for taxes, and a request for fair shares of provincial grants, such as Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund (OMPF) and Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF), to keep the Town’s finances stable.
Mayor, Brian Petrie says he thinks the time was well spent and projects could be moving in the right direction.
"Thank you to the provincial officials who met with the Town of Ingersoll at ROMA. These discussions help us match our local goals with provincial plans. It is a small but important step toward a better future for our community. We look forward to working together."
The conference was held in Toronto.
