The new HART Hub was the main topic of discussion during the latest interview with Mayor Jerry Acchione.
WOODSTOCK - There will be help for those that are struggling.
News has been released about a HART Hub coming to Woodstock, which will help people all across Oxford County suffering from homelessness and addictions. Mayor, Jerry Acchione says the Woodstock Hospital played a huge role in attracting the Hub to the city.
"They have kind of picked up that whole momentum. They had a similar kind of idea and thoughts with the Ontario Health Team and our Mayor's Task Force. We have gotten everybody together and put this plan forward. This is game changing for us, this is exciting."
It will be located in Woodstock at the old Woodstock Hydro building, and Mayor Acchione says what the Hub will bring.
"It is not going to be a shelter. They are there for recovery. It's hospital led. Addictions, so alcohol addictions, drug addictions, yes they will be there, but it will be come and go."
Mayor Acchione was super happy with the news and says 2025 is going to a year of change for the city when it comes to helping homelessness.
He also talked about Councillor Bernia Martin announcing her plan to run as the Liberal candidate for Oxford in the upcoming Provincial Election. Other topics that were touched on include the Downtown Streetscape vote, passing of the hybrid voting for municipal elections and others.
