Political newcomer Maxwell Adam is running for Tillsonburg Council
A man who describes his political style as "progressive yet historically informed" is looking to join Tillsonburg Town Council.
Multi Service Centre employee Maxwell Adam filed his papers last week for a councillor position saying municipal politics has always been a goal of his.
While he has many ideas for making the town better, the lack of transportation is one of the many issues facing residents.
"People having access to services. Tillsonburg we are lucky that we do have some services but I think there is still a lot of work that can be done. I think now there is one doctor accepting new patients, but how can we not offer someone a doctor? Job development, you know, getting some jobs that are a bit beyond minimum wage in town."
Adam says he has always been hailed a leader which he thinks will help him in the role.
"I would say I have refined leadership skills, good problem solving abilities and interpersonal skills. With my job at the Multi Service Centre I'm at the forefront of a lot of community issues today, transportation being one. I also am active in the community in different ways. I sit on the board at the Woodstock and Area Community Health Centre."
After nearly a decade in post secondary school, Max says he feels like he is settled and back home and ready for this challenge.
"I really want to generate some excitement and some initial conversations around what issues the town is facing because what I do feel is that 80 percent of the town's voice is not being heard. I don't think there's a big reason, I just think it's democratic engagement. I really hope we can get some conversations started here with young people in town."
Max will have some competition as current councillor Mel Getty has filed for reelection.
There are five council positions up for grabs in Tillsonburg.
