Former OPP officer Mel Getty seeks another term on Tillsonburg Council
Mel Getty is seeking reelection in Tillsonburg.
The former OPP officer received the third highest number of councillor votes in the 2010 election.
Getty said he has been a public servant one way or another his entire life.
"I thoroughly enjoyed being on council the last three years and I'm very satisfied with the progress we've made in the last three years as a council and whole. I do recognize that there's some more progress we can make and should make for our citizens and I want to be part of that."
Getty feels his approachable nature and ability to decipher fact from fiction are just some of the reasons he makes a good council member.
"I don't make quick decisions based on limited information. I like to get all of the information I can and then sit back and make the decision. It's not in my nature to lie so I think I have the integrity and the honesty that that position really should have because you're dealing with other people's money and the decisions that I make are going to effect everyone that lives in town."
Getty says he would really like to see the town's debt and reserves balance each other.
"The big issue on the horizon right now is Tillsonburg Hydro Inc. , as well as trying to encourage more industry. Our residential sales are good, our building permits are sitting not too bad for new houses but we would really like to get some new industry here to help with the tax base."
Newcomer Maxwell Adam has also filed papers for a council position.
There are five councillor positions up for grabs.
