If you were at Home Depot in Woodstock yesterday, chances are you caught a glimpse of Woodstock Hydro's mobile smart home.
The utility spent the day at the hardware store launching the Ontario Power Authority's Coupon Event and were hosting a green energy doors open event.
Manager of Operations Jay Heaman says Woodstock Hydro doesn't have a lot of curb appeal in a lot of cases and it's important for them to be out in the public promoting new technology.
"Helping them understand that we are here to serve people for more than just delivering electricity. We want to help people understand the importance of efficiency, how to reduce their bills, how to reduce their consumption and contribute to the global push for a reduced carbon environment."
Those who came out to Home Depot yesterday were also given the opportunity to test drive Woodstock Hydro's electric car.
"There's no noise. There's no combustion engine in that car at all, so it's all electric. It's 85 percent efficient as compared to 15 or 20 percent in a combustion car. It has all kinds of torque. The energy is converted directly to the wheels."
Two electric vehicle charge stations were recently installed on the side of the Woodstock Hydro building and Heaman says there is a lot of local interest in the technology.
