Following two recent car thefts in Zorra Township, OPP are asking residents to not leave their keys or other personal belongings in their vehicles.
ZORRA TOWNSHIP - Zorra Township OPP would like to remind everyone to pocket your keys after exiting your vehicle.
This message comes after two vehicles were stolen in Zorra Township because their keys were in the vehicles.
OPP says all thefts are crimes of opportunity which can easily be prevented by:
- Being aware of the surroundings
- Parking in well-lit areas
- Locking your doors
- Keeping valuables out of sight
- Reporting any suspicious activity
- Pocketing your keys
This campaign is part of Oxford County OPP’s on-going crime prevention efforts, which includes the Lock it or Lose It campaign and it's mostly promoted during the holidays.
Auto thieves are turning to technology - and vehicles' electronic systems - to get by security systems and steal vehicles. Electronic auto theft is on the rise as more vehicles are equipped with technology such as keyless entry fobs.
Drivers are being urged to not keep their personal documents such as vehicle ownership, liability pink slips, credit card invoices, or other documents containing personal information in their cars due to identity theft and proof of ownership.
If you have had a vehicle stolen or know someone who has had a vehicle stolen, please contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
