Oxford County council approved the two buildings during their meeting last Wednesday. The building in Woodstock will be on the corner of Nellis Street and Lansdowne Avenue, while the one in Tillsonburg will be on Broadway Street.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County council recently approved a pair of apartment buildings for Woodstock and Tillsonburg.
Council recently approved the two buildings at last Wednesday's meeting.
Warden Larry Martin says this will benefit the County.
"The one in Woodstock is going on the corner of Nellis Street and Lansdowne Avenue and it's a six-storey building, and it's going to have 49 units, I believe they said. And it's more for older residents and it's to enable people to move out of their home and into something that's smaller and easier to maintain."
Warden Martin adds it's great to see this development in the area.
It was first approved in principle by Woodstock City council at their meeting in September.
Escalade Property Corporation is in charge of the project in Woodstock, and they say they'll begin to plan for the property. It has been vacant for over 50 years.
Warden Martin says the building in Tillsonburg was granted with a condominium agreement with its residents.
"It's going to allow some of these seniors to move into these apartments because there's a lot of seniors out there that they're finding their homes they're living in are too big and too much to look after. So if they were to transfer to move into these homes, or these apartments, then that would free up the homes for younger families moving into the area and hopefully will help embrace our workforce, as well for the industries we have to fill the vacancies in employment we have in Oxford County as well."
The apartments in Tillsonburg will be on 253 Broadway Street.
The approvals for the project in Tillsonburg would allow the units to be sold as condos in the future, however JMR Properties Inc, who owns the property, says the apartments will be rented for a few years.
The project will open on November 1st, which includes 28 residential units and a commercial unit for a dentist office.
