Impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and not wearing a seatbelt will be the areas police will crack down on this weekend
OXFORD COUNTY - As the weather promises to be beautiful for the Thanksgiving long weekend OPP will be out in full force.
Constable Lisa Narancsik breaks down what those 4 areas are. "We will be out in full force so there will be a big presence because they're a lot of people travelling this weekend. We are going to be looking for people who are distracted driving, so if they are texting or on their cell phones those two in particular were both in the lead for road deaths. So far we have seen an increase in people not wearing their seatbelts."
Safety is the key message the OPP are enforcing and Constable Narancsik explains the importance of driving safe no matter what. "We just want people to get to their destination safely, we want people to avoid driving distracted, avoid speeding, avoid impaired driving, and make sure you are wearing your seatbelts to keep you safe and getting from destination A to point B."
These bad driving habits are no laughing matter according to Constable Narancsik. "170 out of 227 road deaths this year have been due to distracted driving, speeding, impaired driving, or not wearing a seatbelt. That is a high number and are all easily avoidable, even if you're not doing one of those things you have to be aware of everyone else to just make sure everyone is travelling safely on this holiday season."
