A new scam is targeting elderly citizens with an unknown caller claiming to be grandson demanding money
TILLSONBURG - You work hard for your money, so work hard to protect it is the slogan Oxford OPP are reminding residents to take note of after the latest money scam has appeared in Tillsonburg. A resident was contact by an unknown male claiming to be their grandson demanding money after being in a vehicle collision, and was being held at a courthouse unless they could send $1,000 cash to get him released. OPP warn that professional con-artists will do background information checks on you, so don't be alarmed if they know personal information and to keep your guard up if you do get contacted. Checking in with family members to determine if there is any need of financial assistance should be your first plan of action. No money was delivered and police were notified immediately.
Anyone with information regarding this incident should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222- 8477 (TIPS) where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2000.
