Another project designed to conserve energy and help Oxford achieve 100 percent by 2050 is moving forward in Woodstock.
WOODSTOCK - Phase two of the White Lanes project with eCamion and Woodstock Hydro is moving forward.
Phase two will bring more energy storage, add more solar, bring surveillant to do a micro grid controller, and team with local universities for innovation and have a proven product ready to go by August of next year. CEO of eCamion Harry Subramaniam tells Heart FM what they hope to accomplish in Phase 2.
"I think about 16 homes from where we stand today at the Woodstock Art Gallery, so behind the Woodstock Hydro headquarters and it involves a church, a couple of residential homes and a couple of commercial buildings, so we start with about 15-20 that are wired in to help them conserve energy but also watch their patterns and see how you can use storage with solar energy and consume as least as possible from the grid."
He adds if this works the plan is to expand into phase three which would power much of downtown Woodstock and then continue to move forward with the project.
Today the Parliamentary Sectary for the Ontario Minister of Environment was on hand to to announce $120,000 in Provincial funding for the project. Bob Delaney says he is really impressed with Woodstock and Oxford County and their goal to become 100 percent reliant on renewable energy by 2050.
"Your running ahead of most places, not just in Ontario but across the world, this is a centre of excellence and a place that a lot of people are going to come to study what it is your doing and how."
Woodstock Mayor Trevor Birtch and Oxford County Warden David Mayberry were also on hand for the announcement and encouraged residents to find out more at the Doors Open Green Energy event happening at Woodstock Hydro this Saturday from 9 a.m to 3 p.m.
