Police Chief Renton says public safety is their number one concern - plans to crack down on distracted driving.
WOODSTOCK - After five months on the job the new Chief of Police for Woodstock is starting to get settled into his new position.
Chief William Renton took over for Rod Freeman on January 1st. He has been with Woodstock Police since 2010 and has previously worked as a detective inspector investigating major criminal investigations. Renton originally came to Woodstock as the case manager for the Tori Stafford investigation and then signed on with the force afterwards.
He tells Heart FM he has a great team to work with in Woodstock. "I've said it to many people; we may be small but we certainly are mighty and provide a very good service for the city."
Renton says a lot of the major crimes facing Woodstock, like drug use, are no worse than any other municipality and it is something they will constantly work on. He adds the primary focus of the police is public safety and they will be targeting that this summer. One thing Renton says they really want to start cracking down on is distracted driving as he still sees way to many people texting while behind the wheel. He also says you can expect to see more ride checks popping up in the city now that the warm weather has arrived.
