After an exhaustive search, the OPP have recovered the body of 9 year old Alex Ottley, who fell into the frigid cold waters of Lake Erie last month.
HALDIMAND COUNTY - The search for the body of a 9 year old boy who fell into the waters of Lake Erie last month is over.
Police were called on Tuesday by a resident who observed something in the Lake. An OPP Marine Unit member attended the area in a vessel and located the body of 9-year-old Alex Ottley, east of where he was last seen, and approximately 40 metres from the shoreline.
Ottley fell into the Lake on Saturday February 15th while he was playing on the ice edge and wave swept him and his friend into the lake.
A 10-year-old female who was with the boys, ran up to the roadway and flagged down a vehicle for help. A man and woman from the vehicle went out onto the ice to the water's edge and were able to rescue the 8-year-old male.
