Burst pipe at Central PS in Woodstock caused by freezing weather.
Classes are resuming this afternoon at Central Public School in Woodstock, after a wet situation this morning.
A pipe burst at 8:15 this morning, just as students were arriving for the day.
Thames Valley Superintendent Barb Sonier says the school suffered some interior water damage. "There was water in the hallways, streaming through a couple of rooms, the music room and computer lab. But we got lots of help in here. They cleaned it all up and fixed the pipe."
About 150 students were at the school when it happened, and they were taken to the gymnasium while the mess was cleaned up. Other students were sent back home with their parents, but can return for classes this afternoon.
In assessing the damage, Sonier says there are some repairs that will need to be made. "So in the music room, ceiling tiles will have to be repaired. Because water came through in the computer lab, we'll have to remove the computers and assess the damage on each of the computers that got wet."
She says the burst pipe was "definitely" weather related, caused by freezing. But, overall she says a quick response by Thames Valley staff that helped limit and clean up the damage, allowing classes to resume today.
