INGERSOLL - The Active Living Senior Health Fair is coming to Ingersoll this Saturday.
The event is for seniors to learn about the different community programs and resources in their community to help them stay active and independent in their lives.
The event and the people running it all promote activity throughout the community in all ages says Centre Manager Kim Bidwell.
“We aim to keep everybody active in the community, actively ageing, being active starting at a young age. We have had many ambassadors for our program this year and they range in age from 55 to 90+ and they are showcasing what they have done to stay active, that they have chosen an active lifestyle to promote their own personal health and wellness. Any seniors who are active and involved in wellness in social programs helps reduce isolation in your community and also reduces the wear and tear on the healthcare system. An active person is healthier, has better connection to the community and has options to find support systems such as ourselves. We offer a service side as well as a recreation side and it keeps them well connected in the community. Keeping everybody socially active in a small community means they can stay in their community and not have to leave their community to find the services, support systems or housing they need.”
These programs are important for seniors because it helps them maintain a healthy social life and the physical strength to be independent and reduce the need for retirement homes or home care.
The fair includes many fun and informational events including 8 Informative Seminars with the Ontario Energy Board, the CRA to talk about your personal income tax, the benefits of Equine Therapy and the OACAO to talk about door to door scams.
The event will have entertainment free healthy snacks and a trade show explains Bidwell.
"We have over 50 vendors in our trade show and the trade show vendors encompass a wide variety of interests, everything from travel to equipment health promotion educational opportunities."
Admission for the Active Living Fair is free and runs from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the Ingersoll 50+ Activity Centre and the first 300 people to attend are gifted a free goodie bag.
