You don't have to head south this weekend to take advantage of Black Friday savings.
OXFORD COUNTY - It's American Thanksgiving and that means tomorrow is Black Friday.
Local stores in Oxford County have embraced the Black Friday sales, so shoppers don't have to cross the border to find savings this Christmas. Manager of the Ingersoll B.I.A Chelsea Jibb says local store owners are staying open later and offering up some deals this weekend.
"In the spirit of providing customers with the best value possible, a number of our shops have actually embraced hosting Black Friday sales and even in some cases the more American models with the Cyber Monday as well, offering all kinds of deals, workshops and that kind of thing."
Manager of the Norwich Downtown BIA Laura Barker says in many cases the Black Friday sales are better than Boxing Day.
"I think shoppers are taking advantage of getting some deals before Christmas, doing a lot of their Christmas shopping on Black Friday, getting the discounts beforehand instead of after."
Manager of the Woodstock Downtown BIA Kelly Morrison says you really don't have to head south to find deals this weekend and you can also do your part by supporting local.
"We have always been about supporting local and that is our mandate, keep the dollars here. Those business owners rely on the Christmas sales to stay here and they offer the deals because they want people to stay here and support them and shop local."
Stores across Oxford County are offering Black Friday sales this weekend with some of them even staying open later to accommodate shoppers.
