Oxford Public Health want you to post your "smiley" on their Facebook page.
April is Oral Health month, and Oxford County Public Health want to see your "smiley".
Manager of Health Promotion, Susan MacIsaac says all this month, residents are encouraged to take a picture of themselves with the cartoon "smiley" cut-out. "It's an opportunity to get students and youth involved in Oral Health month to promote good oral health and they can go to our Facebook page and upload their picture of them with the big giant smile and win some great prizes."
Participants could win an electronic toothbrush or oral hygiene gift packs. The photo with the most "likes" will be the top winner.
The contest is emphasizing that part of a healthy lifestyle includes good oral health. Public Health Dental Hygienist, Holly Heard-Lucas highlights three tips to achieve good oral health. "Brush your teeth for two minutes, twice a day. Eat a nutritious diet, be careful about snacks and drinking a lot of pop, it can damage your teeth and cause cavities and visit your dentist regularly, as often as they recommend."
Oxford Public Health provide basic dental care to uninsured children age 17 and under through their Healthy Smiles Ontario program as well as emergency dental care through the Children in Need of Treatment (CINOT) program.
MacIsaac says National Smile Month is also a time to acknowledge our dentists and dental health care providers. "I think it's just a perfect opportunity to celebrate all our oral health professionals in Oxford County and value your dentist and the people that do provide oral health care."
