12-Days of Christmas lottery wraps up
As you heard on Heart FM this morning, Madge Kennedy has won the $10,000 grand prize in the Southgate Centre's 12 Days of Christmas lottery.
Madge was sleeping this morning when the first call came in, but later phoned the Southgate Centre, and was surprised by the win.
She joked after waking up to all the snow, she was going to buy a snow plow with the money.
Southgate Board member, Daniela Vukobratic says the 12-days lottery, in its second year, sold fewer tickets than last, but is still a huge success. "For us, regardless, it's a tremendous fundraiser. It's the biggest fundraiser we have. We have our golf tournament in the fall, and then this lottery is the biggest fundraiser for the centre. It does a huge amount of good work for us here."
The money will help support the costs of running social and exercise programs for adults 50-plus in Woodstock.
Another Southgate Board Member Connie Lauder says that makes it a lottery local residents can get behind. "When I tried to sell the tickets, I always telling them it was money coming to our city and to the Centre, which meant a lot to people. Once they heard that, they were really quite receptive to purchasing a ticket."
Expect the 12 Days of Christmas Lottery to be back in 2014-15.
