Special Needs Building

Council approve a zone change to allow for construction of new special needs building on Young Street

A new special needs housing complex is one step closer to becoming a reality in the City.

Council approved the application for a zone change at 60 Young Street Thursday from 'residential' to 'special residential' in order to permit the construction of a 2-storey building with 4 apartments as well as an adult education and training centre for those with special needs proposed by the Bysham Park Housing Corporation.

The application didn't come without some controversy though as one neighbour expressed concerns the building would look too institutional and decrease property values in the area, though they did support the use for the building.

A representative from Vance Construction said they were willing to work with the City to ensure the building had a pleasing exterior look.
