Police believe the suspects damaged a vehicle that was for sale Facebook Marketplace, so they could get it for a lower price.
PARIS - The Brant OPP is investigating a case of fraud related to a private vehicle sale in Paris.
Police say someone had listed the vehicle for sale on Facebook Marketplace and two men had voiced their interest in buying it.
They arrived at the sellers home to check it out and police say one of the men spoke with the seller while the other looked over the vehicle's engine compartment. The vehicle was started not too long afterward and the engine sounded rough, so the buyers renegotiated a lower price with the seller.
However, the seller counted the cash they received after the buyers towed the vehicle away and discovered that they did not receive the full amount that was agreed upon. Police also believe the buyers may have tampered with the vehicle in order to reduce the value.
The OPP has released photos of the two suspects and would like anyone with information regarding their identity to come forward.
Anyone with information regarding this case in general should call the Brant OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and use reference number E260029463. You can also submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
