Life-long Oxford County resident David Hayes is going to try his hand at municipal politics.
Southwest Oxford has their first municipal council election candidate.
36 year old David Hayes filed his papers earlier this month for the position of Ward 2 Councillor.
The life-long Oxford County resident and father of four says he has always been interested in politics and the timing is right.
"I'm home full time to farm so I have some spare time and I have some spare time and I have three kids going into school next year so I just feel I have more time to get into something like that."
Hayes believes his farming business experience makes him a good candidate for the position.
"I'm also young and eager to learn and I believe I will provide a fresh perspective to council."
Hayes says the Southwest Landfill Proposal is a big issue facing the municipality and something he is strongly against.
"Taxes is always an issue for everybody. It seems like taxes have to keep being raised every year because it seems like the municipalities receive less and less funding all of the time. Probably the third issue is always road maintenance. Finding enough money to keep upgrading and maintaining roads."
The position of Ward 2 Councillor is currently held by Ron Sackrider. No word if Ron plans to run for reelection.
