Ingersoll and Dorchester will host the 2015 Ontario Men's Curling Championship
It's being billed "Clash on the Thames".
Ingersoll and Dorchester are not clashing, but teaming up to host the 2015 Ontario Men's Curling Championship.
A news conference was held this morning to announce Ingersoll's Curling Club is the host club for the event, while Dorchester's spacious Flight Exec Centre arena will be the venue. It's a partnership that came together easily, as nearly 30% of the Ingersoll club's members hail from Thames Centre.
Club Past President Bob Armstrong says Ingersoll's arena just wasn't big enough to host the event on its own. "You've got to be able to seat 1000-1200 people, which Ingersoll couldn't do. And we need space to host all the parties and events that come with it."
Ontario Curling Association VP Gord Gark says OCA officials were very impressed with the joint effort of Ingersoll and Dorchester at making their case to host. "Ingersoll approached the Ontario Curling Association and we came down and looked at the facility and said 'Wow, this is where we would like to put this event on.' We're very happy to be coming here."
For the Ingersoll Curling Club it will be all hands on deck to play host to the event. Bob Armstrong says it's a real honour for their members, "Ontario has many championships, and this is the premier event. It's a big deal for a small community to host something this big."
The event is set for February 2nd to the 8th of 2015. Tickets will be going on sale soon.
This year's Tankard starts next week and is being held in Smith Falls, ON.
