The construction committee has received tenders, but renovations to Queen's Park in Tavistock are on hold. A Tavistock fundraising campaign that was meant to raise $600,000 is sitting $200,000 short of the total. The total cost of the project is $1-Million, with township council already set to kick in $250,000. However, Mayor Don McKay says everyone involved in making the renovations possible are putting in a lot of effort. "Community volunteers are doing are tremendous amount of work. They've logged 3,700 hours into this project to design and plan to meet the next 25 years need in the community." Member of the Tavistock and District Rec Board Steve Bender says the construction tenders are pushing their budget even higher. "We're over budget on these tenders. We haven't had time to go through the tenders with the people to know what is included and what is not in it to make sure that we're getting what we think we're getting, but maybe they're offering more than we need, so we got to go do our little due diligence to come up with accurate information". A pavilion upgrade, snack booth, and possible splash pad are just a few of the additions to the new park. The renovations are hoped to be underway by early October, but with the fundraising falling short, the project's timeline is in jeopardy.
